locksmiths are professionally trained and highly experienced
in key duplication which is generally carried out by using electric
key machines although they are also trained to duplicate keys by
hand if required. There are 3 important factors involved in cutting
a key correctly: -
Identifying
and choosing the correct key blank - the new key may not even go
into the lock if the wrong type is chosen
Ensuring key duplication machines are set up correctly and
checked regularly - the new key may not operate the lock or may
be difficult to turn if the key cuts are too high, too low or
out of horizontal alignment
Knowledge and experience of the locksmith to cut the key
correctly and to professionally hand finish it where necessary,
so that it enters and operates the lock as smoothly as the
original key
All key duplication is covered by a replacement
policy or money back guarantee and liability is limited to the
retail price of the key. Exceptions occur when keys to be copied are
too badly worn, bent or broken to guarantee a perfect copy. We will
bring this to the attention of customer and offer them the option to
proceed entirely at their own risk which will cancel any guarantee
that the key will work.
The cost of key cutting depends on the type of key required but
prices start as low as £1.20
per key for the most popular keys and an average price of other
standard cylinder or mortice keys is
£3.00 per key. Genuine
blanks, registered keys and 5-lever mortice keys tend to be slightly
more expensive.
